The ‘people as a sovereign body’, through a mutually agreed-upon set of laws that correspond with a common set of restrictions, act as protection against violations of individual liberty and despotic power. Without the presence of such a common body, individuals are deprived of such protection. Those in power may command under a state of license and individuals are forced to obey without liberty.

Neo-liberalism and despotic power ultimately lead to the total exclusion of certain citizens under the full veil of liberty. With the vanishing of the people’s will comes the utter disappearance of certain citizens who live in a spontaneous society as if they were stateless or lawless individuals. Rather it creates conditions in which political inequality becomes entrenched and citizens are divided between those who command and those who obey.

Against these assumptions, we argue that unless we take seriously both the people as a political category and the right to equal and reciprocal coercion, individual liberty will be at risk. Seeking a different attitude to the present time and exploring the ambiguities of democracy. Language becomes an illuminated manifestation of existence, referencing double meaning. Every illuminated face possesses both real substance and illusory liberty.
